“...exceptionally candid documentary.
As I Am paints a startlingly realistic portrait of life in the music industry as a female artist.
Unflinching in its depiction of motherhood in the spotlight.”

A MOSAIC FILMS PRODUCTION FOR BBC TWO

Paloma Faith exploded onto the music scene in 2009 with her debut album, which went platinum within weeks. She quickly became a household name, known for her retro-soul sound and her dramatic aesthetic, with appearances as a judge on ‘The Voice’ and in numerous TV series. In her decade-long career, she has headlined at Glastonbury, had multi-million album sales and topped the music charts across the world.

This observational documentary is an intimate look at one of the most turbulent moments in her career so far - touring as a new mother.

“In this industry, when you reach a milestone like becoming a mother, it's almost like you have to renegotiate your audience"

In an industry notoriously preoccupied with youth and relevance, Paloma faces increased pressure to prove herself. The tour is touted as a ‘make-or-break’ moment for her and her career, with huge expectations placed on her by management.

“I had to prove I could be the best mother and best entertainer, all in one”

The film follows her backstage as she struggles to balance the stress and glamour of being a popstar - the hectic schedule, the dramatic costumes, the gruelling hours - with the everyday reality of being a mum. With unlimited access to Paloma, the film also features appearances and contributions from the Rag’n’Bone Man, Ty Taylor and Jonas Blue, as well as her band, management and family members.

This frank and authentic portrait of fame reveals an extraordinary woman caught between the demands of the present, her hopes for the future and a deeply personal reflection on her past, especially her own childhood.
